Here is where the dilemma begins. I begin to wonder why Tomas still loves Tereza, she came to him all exposed and vulnerable. The character even suffers from an internal conflict of conformity. She does not know what separates her from other women. She has constant nightmares about herself, naked with other women, marching in a circle. Her voice drowned out by the sing song voice of other women. She is indistinguishable. Her mother raised her to believe that her body is just like the rest of other women. So why then does Tomas stay with Tereza?
